Who we are

Our website address is: https://erikkruger.com.

What we collect

We only collect personal information that you choose to give us, plus the cookie data described below.

  • Enquiries. The “Check availability” form is hosted by Typeform. What you enter there, such as your name, email address and event details, is sent to us through Typeform so that we can reply.
  • Newsletter. If you subscribe to our newsletter, your email address is collected by Kit (formerly ConvertKit), the service we use to send it. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email.
  • Reflection forms. Some workshop pages include a short reflection form. If you complete one, your name, email address and answers are sent to Erik, and we use your email address to send you a summary of your answers.
  • Comments. Comments are switched off on this site, so we do not collect comment data.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cookies

Cookies are small text files that a website saves in your browser. This site uses a few essential cookies to work, and optional analytics and advertising cookies that help us understand our audience and measure our advertising. You choose whether the optional cookies are used.

Essential cookies

  • ek_consent remembers your cookie choice so that we do not ask you again on every page. It lasts 180 days and contains only “granted” or “denied”.
  • wc_facebook_signals_state tells the site whether Meta measurement is allowed, based on your choice. It lasts up to one year and contains no personal data.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Analytics and advertising cookies (optional)

  • Google Analytics 4 sets _ga and _ga_<ID> to count visits and see which pages are useful. They last up to two years.
  • Google Ads sets _gcl_au to measure whether our Google ads lead to enquiries, and may be used to show our ads to people who have visited this site. It lasts 90 days.
  • Meta Pixel (Facebook and Instagram) sets _fbp, plus _fbc if you arrive by clicking one of our Meta ads. They let Meta measure our ads and show them to relevant people, and last around 90 days.
  • Meta Conversions API. This site can also send the same page events to Meta directly from our server. It only does so when Meta measurement is allowed in your browser.

These providers process the data under their own policies: how Google uses information from sites that use its services and the Meta Privacy Policy.

Videos and other embedded content

Our videos are hosted on YouTube. Nothing loads from YouTube until you press play, and the player uses YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com). Once a video is playing, YouTube may set its own cookies and collect data about how you watch, as described in Google’s Privacy Policy.

Some pages include other embedded content, such as Apple Podcasts players on our podcast page. Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

The fonts on this site are served from our own server, so loading a page does not send your details to a font provider.

How European visitors are asked for consent

If your device is set to a time zone in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you will see a cookie banner on your first visit. Until you choose “Accept”, Google Analytics, Google Ads and the Meta Pixel do not load and set no cookies. As an extra safeguard, Google’s tags default to “denied” for visitors in those regions. If you choose “Decline”, they stay off.

Visitors elsewhere do not see the banner by default, and the analytics and advertising cookies are on. You can switch them off at any time, as described below.

Changing your choice

Use the Cookie settings link at the bottom of any page to see your current setting and accept or decline the optional cookies. If you decline, we also remove the analytics and advertising cookies this site has already set in your browser. You can also delete cookies in your browser settings at any time.

Who we share your data with

We use the services named above to run this site: Google (Analytics and Ads), Meta (Pixel and Conversions API), Typeform (enquiries) and Kit (newsletter).

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

How long we retain your data

Cookie lifetimes are listed in the Cookies section above.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have given us your details, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where your data is sent

Google, Meta, Typeform and Kit are international companies, so data collected through their services may be processed outside South Africa, under their own privacy policies.
